A Celebration of Life will be held for Barbara "Adair" Nicol, 78, of Newark, formerly Granville, Monday, Sept. 6, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 with Pastor Tom Myers officiating at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville. A private graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Adair passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010. She was born August 31, 1932 in Gettysburg, PA to the late Charlton and Dorothy (German) Williams.
Adair, a retired switchboard operator at Denison University, attended The Ohio State University studying Occupational Therapy. She was an avid sports fan, enjoyed gardening, knitting, and spending time on the beach. Her greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who endearingly referred to her as "Mammaw".
Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Deborah and Michael Paynter of Newark, and Beckie Rue of Newark; grandchildren, Nici, Jonathan, Courtney, Lindsay, and Stephanie; great-grandchildren, Emma, Hailei, Nova, David, and Kierra; cousins, Tim, Tom, and Diane; and good friend, "adopted 'Aunt' Barb".
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Nicol who died Oct. 7, 1984; son, David E. Nicol; son-in-law, Rob Rue; and one sister, Louise Williams.
