A funeral service celebrating the life of Adrian V. Smith, 78, of Granville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010 at Spring Hills Baptist Church, 1820 Newark-Granville Road, Granville with Pastor Bill Van Meter and Rick Alvis officiating. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Adrian died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2010 at Arlington Health Care in Newark. He was born Dec. 17, 1931 in Quaker City, Ohio to the late Clifton and Beulah (Milhoan) Smith.
An Army veteran, Adrian served his country during the Korean War. While serving, he played basketball and his team was a two-time, European Championship winner.
Adrian, the son of an itinerant pastor, was devout in his faith, taught Sunday school, and served many years on the church board. He was a member of the Hebron Church of Nazarene. A hard worker, Adrian managed the Granville Milling Company from the early 1950's until he retired in 1996. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and O.S.U. football and basketball.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Dona Smith of Granville; daughter and son-in-law, Pollyanna and Mark Brown of Newark; sons and daughters-in-law, Monte and Lisa Smith of Granville, and Trent and Laura Smith of Heath; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Benjamin) Cornwell, Alexander, Aaron and Adrianne Brown, Lauren and Hannah Smith, and Jonah and Tate Smith; brother, Ronald Smith of Granville; and sister, Linda Athey of Newark.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Fireside Room at Spring Hills Baptist Church.
