A graveside service will be held for Aileen S. Philipps, 89, formerly of Granville, at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Welsh Hills Cemetery in Granville with Pastor Jeff Smith as celebrant.

Aileen passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 at her home in Heath. She was born in Newark, Ohio on July 16, 1926 to the late Carlos and Flora May (Willey) Simpson.

Prior to starting her family, Aileen was employed at Owens Corning as a clerk. Most of her life-time was spent being a devoted wife, mother of four girls, and grandmother. She was a member of Owens Corning Retirees, Granville Mothers Club, and many volunteer activities.

One of the sweetest ladies known, Aileen will be remembered for her orneriness, sense of humor, loving- nature, and her devotion to her family. She enjoyed traveling, family vacations, crafting, flower-gardening, music and dancing, and shopping. She delighted in collecting and painting miniatures, a hobby she shared with her husband who made many of the items she painted.   She instilled her love for all crafts in her daughters and grand-daughters around the kitchen table making memories to be treasured.

Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-laws, Barbe and Greg Helwig, Janet and Bob Procida, Carol Philipps, and Nancy and Dan Waits; grandchildren, Kelli, Kim, and Korynne Waits, and Erich and Tristan Helwig; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Aileen was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Thomas E. Philipps; brothers, Clarence, Paul, and Carl Simpson; and sisters, Ethel Dunham, Frances Clark, and Anna Reeves.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 5 to 7 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
