Alfonso "Al" Priano Jr., a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully in Granville, Ohio, on November 5 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. Known for his loving nature, sense of humor, and generosity, Al was born on May 18, 1936, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Al was the son of Italian immigrants and his early life was filled with hard work and dedication. After graduating from Carrick High School, he served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Boston. His commitment to service continued in his professional life as a long-time postal employee, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues as both a letter carrier and a postmaster. Before he worked for the USPS, Al was a barber and a private investigator. Al’s hobbies included acting, drawing, and playing the drums in his own band “Al Priano and his Orchestra”.
However, Al's greatest joy and achievement lay in his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Leora Priano, for 64 years, and their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them. Al's love extended to his children, Steve and Gina, whom he raised with kindness and instilled with his strong values. His brothers, Guy and the late Tony, shared many cherished memories with Al, remembering him as a rock and a guiding light in their family.
Al was not only a loving father and brother but also a cherished grandfather. He doted on his grandchildren, Isabella, Heidi, Aaron, Lydia, Phoebe, Olivia, and Luke, always making time to be involved in their lives. His son-in-law David Keyser and daughter-in-law Leigh Priano were also embraced as part of Al's large and loving family. In Al's world, family was everything. He had a unique ability to make every family gathering, especially Christmas Eve, special with his humor and warmth.
We honor the life of Alfonso Priano Jr., a man who truly made the world a better place through his love, laughter, and dedication to his family. He will be greatly missed.
