A memorial service celebrating the life of Andrew B. "Gus" Pryor, 79, of Newark, will be held at Noon Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville with Rev. Dr. Ronny W. Dower as celebrant. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
An Army veteran, Gus died Sunday, August 3, 2014 at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born March 4, 1935 in Newark to the late Byron B. and Anne W. (Tees) Pryor.
After graduating from Newark High School, Gus furthered his Education at Denison University where he earned a degree in physics. He was employed as a financial analyst with Merrill Lynch and later worked in education and with nonprofit agencies.
A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Gus will be remembered as a kind and friendly person who loved his family. He was an avid reader and bridge player who enjoyed his time spent at the Granville Senior Center and with his "coffee clutch" friends. A former swimmer, he was also a sports fan who enjoyed Newark High and Denison athletics.
Surviving are his children, Meg Pryor of New York City, NY and Byron and Jennifer Pryor of Pittsburgh, PA; grandsons, Joshua, Andrew, Ryan, and Michael; former wives, Barbara Pryor, mother to his children, and Maura O'Donnell; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gus was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Pryor who died in 1985 and brother, Edwin "Ned" Pryor.
