A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Anthony F. "Tony" Castro, 70, of Granville at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd., Granville with Msgr. Paul P. Enke as celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Columbus with military honors.
Tony passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Grant Medical Center in Columbus. He was born a true Sicilian Italian on August 15, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Anthony and Lena (Define) Castro.
An Air Force veteran, Tony served during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Dayton, Hawaii, Kansas, and where his specialty was security. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Franklin University where he would later return to teach. He had a 30 year career managing data processing education with Nationwide Insurance. His strong work ethic always kept him busy, after retirement, whether it be in the banking industry or with his own company, Computer Advisors, which he founded in 1996.
A member of St Edwards Catholic Church, Tony was past president of parish council and served as an Eucharistic Minister to the homebound. He enjoyed family time, games, and card playing, most especially Euchre. Known as "Nanu' to his granddaughters, Tony will be remembered as a loving, generous, and strong person with devotion to family.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Barbara (Rummer) Castro; daughters, Cathi Castro and her partner, Cindy Starr of Columbus, Diana Castro Cook and her husband Matthew of Bexley and Ellyn Castro of Columbus; granddaughters, Marlena and Jana Cook; sister, Debbie (Michael) Previte; brother, Carl Pavlovich; uncle, John Define and cousin, Pat Castro; godson, Robert Castro; aunts, Mary Jane Curatolo and Theresa Stanonik, and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his dad, Carl Pavlovich.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 19th at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Granville, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
