Arie Geurtz

Arie Joseph Albert Geurtz, 95, of Granville, died November 17, 2010 at Chapel Grove Inn, Heath, Ohio.

Arie is survived by two daughters, Maureen (Ronald) Jobson of East Brunswick, New Jersey, and Sandra (Richard) Graham, of West Union, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Stacey (John) Olszewski, Scott Jobson, Chris (Rae Ellen) Jobson, Kurt (Jennifer) Jobson, Charles (Amy) Graham, Sarah (Deric) Sieck), and Casey Graham, and nine great-grandchildren, Brian, Daniel, and Megan Olszewski, Cameron and Caroline Jobson, Abigail and Melanie Jobson, Creighton Graham, and Ella Sieck.

Arie was born May 7, 1915 in Sneek, Holland. At the age of 22, he emigrated to Shanghai, China for work for a Dutch Bank. On November 29, 1939, he was married to the love of his life, Barbara Maureen Taylor, in Shanghai, China. With the outbreak of WWII, Arie was called up from the reserves into the Dutch Air Force, serving in Indonesia, Australia, and the United States. Following the war, Arie, Barbara and their two daughters, Maureen and Sandra, traveled to Holland before settling in the United States. Arie continued his work in banking, working in the International Departments of several banks in New York, Philadelphia, and finally at The Central Trust Bank in Cincinnati, retiring as a Vice President in 1980. Arie has spent the past four years living in Granville, where he was embraced by many in the community, for which his family is especially grateful.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 631/2 years, Barbara on June 2, 2003, three brothers and their wives, two brothers-in-law and their wives, and one sister-in-law and her husband.

A memorial service celebrating Arie's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Stephen J. Cramer officiating. Private interment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville. To ensure family receipt, online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com
