Arthur D. Barnes, age 92, of Granville, passed away September 23, 2010, after a 14-year battle with prostate cancer. He was born on November 28, 1917, and lived independently in his home with support until just recently.
Preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, and son Tom, he is survived by daughters, Dr. Sylvia Barnes, Charleston, SC, and Patricia (George) Hadler, Upper Arlington; former daughter-in-law, Gaye (Bob) Lovett, Newark; grandchildren, Clay Barnes, Paul Signorelli, Lynette (Blazo) Kovacevich, Katie Signorelli, Jessica (Jon Baines) Hadler, Bill Hadler and Becca Hadler; five great-grandchildren; and dear friends and neighbors.
Formerly of Dayton where he was born and raised, Art worked as a tool and die maker at National Cash Register after a four year apprenticeship in that trade. From 1944 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Knox. After owning his own aluminum extrusion business, he worked at Wright Patterson AFB. In 1962, Art moved his family to Pataskala when he was transferred to the Newark Air Force Base, where he worked as a technician in the Dimensional Branch of the Metrology Directorate.
