A celebration of life visitation will be held for Arthur R. "Marty" Martin, 79, of Heath, from 4 to 6 P.M. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., in Granville.
Marty, owner of Martin Trucking, died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark. He was born Dec. 1, 1934 in WV to the late Arthur and Jean (Smith) Martin.
A US Air Force veteran, Marty proudly served his country in the Korea War as an aircraft mechanic. He was privileged to work on the airplane of Dwight D. Eisenhower while stationed in Azores.
A very ornery, free-spirit, Marty loved being on the road meeting people and making new friends all over the country. He was a very funny, loveable guy who fascinated many with the stories he shared over the years. He enjoyed tinkering and mechanics, especially his truck.
Surviving are his wife of 19 years, Deborah L. (Sullivan) Martin of Heath; son, Gerald (Dawn) Martin of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Sandra (Joseph) Zapf of Baltimore, MD; grandson, Jeremiah (Trisha) Siebert; great-granddaughter, Sadie Siebert; and brother, Steven Martin of Richmond, VA.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Douglas Martin.
Contributions in Marty's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
