B. Dale Wood

A memorial service celebrating the life of B. Dale Wood, 86, of Newark will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville with Pastor Tom Myers as celebrant. A graveside service will follow at Otterbein Cemetery in Westerville.

Dale died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at home surrounded by family. He was born January 19, 1925 in Westerville to the late Byron and Marjorie (Voss) Wood.

A retired sales manager for Kauffman and Lattimer Drug Company, Dale graduated from Otterbein University where he studied biology and played basketball. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army in Japan. In 1948, Dale married the late Betty F. Francis, who died May 16, 2010. They lived in Westerville for 42 years where he was a member of Blendon Lodge #339 F.&.A.M.

A staunch conservative, Dale was a Republican who enjoyed spending time with family, the outdoors, maintaining his home, and morel hunting. He was a private pilot and spent time working with his computer.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thom and Shelia Wood of Newark; grandsons, Andrew, Aaron, and Ryan Wood; granddaughters, Brittany and Kelly Wood; great-grandson, Trenton; and sister, Betty Calvert of Florida.

In addition to his parents and wife of 60 years, Dale was preceded in death by his son, Tim Wood.
