A memorial service celebrating the life of Barbara Lewis, 103, of Granville and Port Austin, Michigan will be held at 2:00 P.M. on October 12, 2013 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 107 E. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Stephen H. Applegate as celebrant. Private interment will be held at Port Austin Cemetery in Michigan.
Barbara was born April 4, 1910 in the seaport town of Barrow-in-Furness, England to the late Thomas and Josephine (Smith) Warner. She passed away August 29, 2013 at her home in Granville surrounded by family.
A stenographer, Barbara retired from Phoenix Wire in Detroit, Michigan. She was a faithful attendee and member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church and Port Austin United Protestant Church in Michigan, where she served on the Altar Guild from 1972 and several offices within the Episcopal Church. Additionally, she was active in the Women's Group, Episcopal Church Women, and Order of Eastern Star. A fervid reader, Barbara also enjoyed letter writing, traveling, and devoted a large amount time to stitching.
Surviving are her daughters and son-in-law, Margaret Rose Pittman of Lake Orion, Mich., and B. Beverly and Leon Gage of Granville; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, John William Lewis, who died in 1981; her son, John Warner Lewis, who died in 2004; three brothers and four sisters.
