Barbara J Thomas

Barbara Jane (Remmele) Thomas, 80, passed away April 21, 2017 at Mount Carmel East Hospital.  Born March 8, 1937 to the late James and Erma (Haynes) Remmele, Barbara grew up in Granville where she was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church and a 1955 graduate of Granville High School. In 1967, Barbara married John S. Thomas, with whom she would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary later this year.  As her children became older, Barbara took a job at Faith Educare and Pre-School in Canal Winchester, where over the next several years she continued to nurture and love the many children in her care. While Barbara loved being a mother, as well as surrogate mother to many others, there was little she cherished more than being a loving grandmother to her only granddaughter, Lauren Elise Collins.

Throughout her life, Barbara was a member or numerous masonic organizations, including the Order of the Eastern Star, and a 60 year member of the Order of the Amaranth. Barbara’s strong Christian faith led her to be an active member of numerous churches, most recently, Bloom Presbyterian Church in Lithopolis, Ohio.

Survived by her husband, John S. Thomas; son, Jim Thomas of Annapolis, MD; daughter and son-n-law, Cindy and Rodney Collins of Delaware, OH; loving granddaughter, Lauren Elise Collins, and numerous family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday April 27, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville with Pastor Catherine A. Hill officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Calling hours will be observed Wednesday April 26, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
