Barbara S. Vockel

A graveside service will be held for Barbara Somers Vockel at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with Rev. John Kauffman as celebrant. The family will receive friends at noon in the Undercroft at St. Luke’s Church, 107 E. Broadway, Granville.

Barbara died January 10, 2018 at Kendal at Granville. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1919 to the late Ransom E. and Ester Frame Somers and graduated from Aspinwall High School. She further studied at Stephens College, earning a degree in Zoology, and attended Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham University.

After arriving Granville in 1953, Barbara became a faithful member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She was also an avid member of Granville Garden Club, Licking Memorial Twigs #5 and #6, Granville Tennis Club, Moundbuilders Country Club, Town and Country Dance Club, and Alfretta Dance Club.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. and Sherry H. Vockel; daughter-in-law Alice Vockel;  grandchildren, Courtney, Carrie, Casey, Chelsea, Richard, Elizabeth, Tyler, and Kelia; and many great  grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard L. Vockel; son Richard L. Vockel; daughter and son-in-law, Constance V. and Calvin K. Ching; and brother, Allen E. Somers.
