Betty R. Morrison

A private graveside service for Betty R. Morrison, 83, of Granville, will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.

Mrs. Morrison died January 26, 2008, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.  She was born May 18, 1924, in Knox County, to the late Frederick and Bertha Mae (Smith) Umbaugh.

Following graduation from Gambier High School in 1942, Betty went on to Business School in Mt. Vernon.  On December 15, 1945, Betty married Robert E. Morrison, Sr. and resided in Mt. Vernon.  She later moved to Fredericktown, Bellville, San Luis Obispo, CA, and finally settled in Granville in 1960.

Mrs. Morrison retired from Denison University in 1995 after 26 years of service in the Political Science Department.  She devoted her time to owning and operating "Our Place" and "Westgate Antique" shops and was manager of the Land of Legend Flea Market in Granville for over 25 years supporting the Granville Athletic Boosters.   Mrs. Morrison also worked in real estate for many years.  Remembered as giving so much to the community and generously giving of her time to help others, in 1993, Mrs. Morrison was honored by the Granville Sertoma Club in receiving the Service to Mankind award.

Surviving are her sons, Robert E. (Barbara) Morrison, Jr., of Granville, and Richard D. Morrison, Sr. of Newark; daughter, Linda S. (Daniel) Kovreg of Newark; grandsons, Eric J. Morrison of Granville, Andrew E. Morrison (Shannon) of Gulfport, MS, Timothy M. Kovreg of Newark, and Richard D. Morrison, Jr. of Reynoldsburg; granddaughters, Aimee E. (Dave) Graves of Bennington, IN, and Kimberly J. (Brent) Sherman of Charlotte, NC. She is further survived by five great-grandchildren, Chandler, Mikayla, Sidney, Hayden and Lillianne; one brother Jim (Jean) Umbaugh of Granville; one sister, Patricia (Marvin) McQuigg of Fredericktown; many nieces and nephews; her loyal companion, Baby, and a host of friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Morrison, Sr., who died October 20, 1996, and two brothers and two sisters.
