Beulah Davis-Harpel

A funeral service celebrating the life of Beulah Davis-Harpel, 98, of Fort Myers, formerly of Alexandria, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Alexandria United Methodist Church, 72 Church Street, Alexandria, with Rev. Mary Sandberg officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Alexandria.

Beulah passed away Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Clausa Harbour Health Care Facility in Fort Myers. She was born January 17, 1912 in Alexandria to the late Earl Bedell and Madge Mowrey Bedell. She was raised on Hardscrabble Road and rode her horse "Pet" to school. She attended Alexandria Schools for 11 years and graduated from Utica in 1930. During high school she was a very good basketball player and nicknamed "Boots". She married Lawrence J. Davis in Van Atta, Ohio in 1933 and to that union two daughters were born, Barbara (Norman) Brush of Newark, and the late Leila June Ratai, who died in 1990.

She was "Nane" to; Randall (Tina) Brush, Gray Court, SC; Cindy Brush, Utica; Malinda K. (David) Klawitter, Johnstown; Michelle (Rick) Johnson, Arlington; and Melissa (Keith) Crump, Johnstown. Great grandchildren; Erin (Kasey) Reeves, Alexandria, Derek (Jess) Brush, Simpsonville, SC; Danielle Smith, Columbus; JD Smith, Johnstown; Brittni Johnson and Tasha Johnson of Arlington, TX; Kaleb Crump and Lydia June Crump, Johnstown; great-great grandchildren; Derek Randall brush, Jr. and Riley Reeves; former son-in-law, Glenn (Susan) Ratai.

Beulah had a very busy life. She was a Red Cross First Aid Instructor, taught ladies to drive, drove a school bus for over 20 years, worked in Main's Grocery, Girl Scouts Leader, and Camp Director, and worked for Peoples State Bank/Park National where she retired in 1975. A member of; Grange, Pythian Sisters, Amaranth, Republican Women's Club, AARP, L'Envi Social Club, and was a 60 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Past Matron of Granville Chapter and after the merger a member of Licking Chapter, #551 in Heath. She was also a member of O.E.S. in Cape Coral, Fl. Beulah was a long time, active member of her beloved Alexandria United Methodist Church.

Loving Florida, Beulah moved to Bradenton in 1988 and there met William F. Harpel, whom she married August 17, 2001. They lived in Cape Coral and enjoyed the Florida life and attending Hope Methodist Church in Cape Coral until her health declined. The family appreciates the kindness shown to Beulah and William. They also wish to share their gratitude to Hope Hospice and the staff at Calusa Harbour Health Care for the care she received these last years.

In addition to her parents, one daughter, and both husbands, Beulah was preceded in death by her brother, William Bedell and niece, Carol Beem.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McPEEK-HOEKSTRA FUNERAL HOME in Granville where O.E.S. services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
