A funeral service honoring the life of United States Air Force Senior Airman Brian “Kody” Johnson, age 32, of Granville, and stationed at Yokota Air Base, Japan, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, at Jersey Church, New Albany. Burial will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery, Granville, where military honors will be observed by United States Air Force members from Wright Patterson Air Force Base.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, December 15, at the church, 13260 Morse Road SW, New Albany.
Kody was born April 24, 1991 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was recently involved in an aircraft mishap off the shore of Yakushima Island, Japan.
Kody was a 2009 graduate of River Valley High School in Gallipolis and attended Morehead State University where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He entered active duty in the United States Air Force on August 27, 2018 and served as a CV-22 Special Missions Aviator and Unit Deployment Manager assigned to the 21st Special Operations Squadron, 353rd Special Operations Wing, at Yokota Air Base, Japan. During his career, Kody was recognized with the Air Medal, Air and Space Commendation and Achievement Medals, Meritorious Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
Kody enjoyed sports, especially disc golf, volleyball, and running. An avid cook, he was the 2022 Chili Champion of his squad. He loved children, especially his niece and nephew, his family, and taking care of others.
He will be greatly missed by his loving family which includes his mother and step-father, Tina M. and Jamey Nutter; his sister and brother-in-law, Marley Johnson and Tony Nguyen; niece, Aurora, and nephew, Kai; step-brothers, Tyler Nutter and Travis Nutter; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kody was preceded in death by his father, Brian Kurt Johnson, on September 5, 2017.
