A funeral service for Carl C. Dixon, 72, of Granville, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Swasey Chapel on the campus of Denison University. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.
Mr. Dixon, a retired Licking County Deputy, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Newark Healthcare Centre. He was born in Granville, Jan. 20, 1936, to the late Rosa (Bailey) and Otto Lee Dixon.
A life-long resident of Granville, Carl attended the London Police Academy and began his career in law enforcement with the Granville Police Department. Shortly thereafter, he served as a deputy with the Licking County Sheriff's Office for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. Carl was member of the National Guard and F.O.P. Local #127. His hobbies included coon hunting, fishing and gentleman farming.
Surviving are his wife, of 51 years, Mary (Walters) Dixon of Granville; daughters and son-in-law, Wanda Dixon of Newark, and Jackie and Stephen Henry of Pataskala; sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert and Susan Dixon of Heath, Jerry and Cathy Dixon of Newark, Carl Allen and Linda Dixon of Alexandria, Douglas and Kay Dixon of Roanoke, Virg., and Raymond and Annette Dixon of Boston, Mass.; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; and sister, Bonnie Jackson of Granville.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, and one grandson, Robert Foust, Jr.
