Carson "Kent" Hitz, Jr.

Carson Kent Hitz, Jr. passed away in Lebanon, Pennsylvania on August 24, 2022 following a lengthy illness. Kent was born August 4, 1943 and spent most of his early years in Granville, Ohio, attending Granville Schools as a member of the Class of 1961. With the loving and determined support of his mother, Jeanne Deeds Carey, and excellent medical care, Kent was able to overcome significant personal obstacles during the course of his life. A gentle soul, Kent loved nature and was most comfortable in the outdoors or in the kind of farm setting that he knew as a boy on the Deeds family farm and on the farm where he later lived near Dayton, Ohio with his mother and supportive stepfather Robert Carey. After his mother’s death in 1990, Kent moved to Pennsylvania to live near one of his sisters, where he was able to live in an independent setting for the rest of his life.

Kent was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jeanne Deeds Carey, and by his father and stepfather. He is survived by brothers Kimball Carey and John “Kip” Hitz and their wives, and by his sisters, Joan Deeds, Judith “Jude” Oxley, and Virginia “Jane” Walton. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Private family services will be held. Kent will be buried near his mother in the Deeds family plot at Maple Grove Cemetery.
