Charles R. Barclay

June 1, 1962 — May 22, 2013

A memorial service celebrating the life of Charles "Chuck" R. Barclay, 50, of Granville, will be held at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Swasey Chapel on the campus of Denison University in Granville with Buck Sappenfield and Pastor Joel A. Esala as celebrants.

Chuck died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at The James Center after a six year battle with melanoma. He was born June 1, 1962 in Charleston, South Carolina to Robert and Patricia (Lockard) Barclay.

Growing up in Chillicothe, Chuck would pull any trick in order to go to his "Grandma's with the cows". He loved spending time at his grandparents' farm and learned to grow things, something he enjoyed later in life, as well.

After graduating from Unioto High School in Chillicothe, Chuck earned a B.S. in Business and his Master's in Leadership from Franklin University. He most recently was Manager of Nutritional Services at Berger Health Systems.

Chuck had a passion for culinary arts and loved feeding people with meals made from scratch and quality ingredients. Easy to get to know, Chuck was a warm and comfortable person that people liked being with. He will fondly be remembered as a family man who enjoyed participating in his sons lives.

In addition to his parents, Chuck is survived by his wife of nearly 27 years, Carrie M. (Voiles) Barclay; sons, Joseph and John Barclay; brother, Ken Barclay; father-in-law, Roy Voiles; sister-in-law, Cathi Melton; and brothers-in-law, Mike and Chase Voiles.

Chuck and Carrie have been longtime residents of Licking County and after buying land and building a house in Granville, he strived to become a positive community member. He ran for Village Council and served with the Village of Granville Charter Review Commission. He was also a volunteer coach with the Granville Recreation Commission for 6 years for soccer, football, and basketball. He was active in the neighborhood home-owners association decorating the entryway for seasonal events and was always engaging with his neighbors. In addition to his community volunteerism he was the anchor for his family, often times shuttling his sons to school, sports, and community events. Chuck was a great encourager, inspirer, and servant for his family and the Granville Community and he will be sorely missed.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect St., Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.

Memorial contributions may be made to Granville Schools Athletic Department, Attn. Mr. Mike Sobul, Treasurer, 248 New Burg St., Granville, OH 43023.
