A private family service for Charles "Charley" L. Shaffer, 70, of Granville, will be held at a later date. Charley died Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born April 22, 1938 to the late Charles F. and Polly (Jagger) Shaffer.
A life-long resident of Granville, Charley graduated from Granville High School in 1956. He attended The Ohio State University but ultimately received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Otterbein College. Furthering his education, Charley received his Masters Degree in Computer Science while at Bell Telephone Laboratories where he was employed and later retired after 30 or more years of service.
Charley was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose greatest joy in life was his family. His favorite hobbies included wood-working, spending time outdoors, and tending to his horses.
Surviving are his wife, of 48 years, Saundra (Kiger) Shaffer of Granville; daughters, Lauren Shaffer of Fishers, Ind. and Lesley Shaffer of Dayton; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Nancy Shaffer of Heath; grandchildren, Amity, Ananda, Hailey, and Hayden Shaffer of Heath; sister, Patricia Shaffer of Fort Myers, Fla.; and step-father, Paul Humphrey of Fort Myers, Fla. and his children, Doug and Pam.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Shaffer.
