A graveside service for Charles R. “Charlie” Showman, 59, of Granville will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with Pastor Brad Kittle officiating.  Military honors will be rendered by Licking County Veterans Alliance. Following the graveside will be a gathering at Infirmary Mound Park, 4351 Lancaster Road in Granville.

A proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, Charlie served during the Vietnam Era. He died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at his home.  He was born Nov. 11, 1956 in Newark, OH to the late Calvin and Juanita Showman.

Charlie attended Granville High School and earned an Associate Degree in Business Management from the OSU Newark Campus.  He was employed at Owens Corning and later worked for the Laborers Union on highway construction.

A black belt, Charlie was a workaholic and would lend a hand to anyone. Fiercely independent, in spite of his struggles with MS, he displayed sides of stubbornness, but Charlie was truly a loving, giving man with a huge heart.

Surviving are his sisters, Sandi (Steve) Hughes, and Barbara Gasser; brothers, Wesley “Gene” (Peggy) Showman, Thomas (Jackey) Showman, and David (Sharon) Showman; 14 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and nephews; uncle, Jim Showman; and special friend A.K.A. “his adopted daughter”, Amber McDonald. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Linda Osterbrock.

Contributions in his memory may be made to NMSS, National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
