David C. Persons

November 1, 1950 — December 7, 2010

A memorial service for David C. Persons will be held on Sunday, December 12, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Thom Lamb officiating.

David died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 7, at his home in Granville. He was born November 1, 1950 in Houston, Texas to the late John V. and Bernice (Fertsch) Persons.

A 1969 Mt. Gilead High School graduate, David moved to Granville, Ohio in 1970 where he was employed as the opening Head Chef for the Buxton Inn in Granville until 1974. He later moved to Hawaii where he furthered his career with Hyatt Regency. He received his certified chef's degree while in Waikiki. In 1980, he returned to Central Ohio, opening the Hyatt Regency Columbus. Extremely gifted in his field, he went on to hold positions as executive chef and manager at the Rocky Fork Hunt and Country Club, Moundbuilder Country Club, and most recently, the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club.

A member of the First Presbyterian Church and long time member of the community, David was known by many to be a compassionate and creative person, who enjoyed photography, golfing and gardening. He loved the beach and sailing and always remembered his times, particularly in Hawaii, with great fondness.

David is survived by his daughters, Laura Kaitlin "Katie" and Molly Kristin Persons, of Granville; sister, Sandra J. Williams of Raleigh, NC; and two brothers, John L. Persons of Bellingham, WA and Charles C. Persons of Longview, Texas.
