Deborah A. (Mason) Nye

March 4, 1955 — July 18, 2024

Deborah “Debbie” A. Nye, age 69 of Newark, Ohio passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, while surrounded by her loving family.

Debbie was born on March 4, 1955, in Fairmont, West Virginia to the late Bob and Joyce (Templin) Mason.  She was a 1973 graduate of Newark High School and a 1976 graduate of The Ohio State University with a bachelor’s degree in social work. In 1976, Debbie married her high school sweetheart, Bob, and was blessed with 48 years of wonderful marriage. They had two sons, Nick and Kenny, sweet daughters-in-law, and seven grandchildren who were her greatest joy.

She dedicated her career to serving with Catholic Social Services of the Columbus Diocese, where her compassion and leadership profoundly impacted the community.  She retired as a Director after 27 years of service.

Debbie was a member of Spring Hills Baptist Church. She participated in several Bible Study Groups, and her faith in Jesus was integral to her life.  Her favorite Bible passage was the Sermon on the Mount, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matt. 5:3-12.

She enjoyed photography and spending time with her kids and grandchildren. In retirement, Debbie and Bob loved being “snowbirds” soaking up the sun in Florida during the cold Ohio winters. The annual trips to Briny Breeze Florida became their warm escape where Debbie treasured her time spent swimming and scouring the beaches for seashells.

Over the years, her sweet dogs, Wessie followed by Buttons, gave Debbie much joy and happiness. Debbie was known for her infectious laugh and joyful smile and never lost her enthusiasm for life despite her health challenges.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Cynthia Nye.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Bob Nye; sons, Nick (Brittany) Nye and Kenny (Lori) Nye; seven grandchildren, Viola, Charlotte, Simone, Killian, Elliott, Karver, and Ava; siblings, Cindy (late David) Weatherington and Mike (Stephanie) Mason; her father-in-law, Herb Nye; sisters-in-law, Donna (Bob) Clarke, Sandy (Jerry) Dezenski; brother-in-law, James (Pam) Nye; and several nieces and nephews.
