Dewey E. Albright

A graveside service for Dewey E. Albright, 88, of Newark, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark with full military honors provided by Wright-Patterson AFB Honor Guard.

Mr. Albright, who retired in 1985 from the Columbus Dispatch, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008.  He was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Canton, to the late Gladys (Kettering) and Edgar F. Albright.

Mr. Albright joined the U.S. Air Force in 1942 and flew combat in Martin B26's in Europe where he received the theater ribbons, DFC, Purple Heart, 5 Air Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.  He also served in Korea from 1952 - 1953 and retired as Lt. Colonel.  Following his military service, he was employed at the Dispatch for 25 years.

Mr. Albright enjoyed skiing all over the United States and skied until he was 81 years old.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Granville, the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club, Hebron Masonic Lodge, Columbus Maennerchor, Retired Military Officer's Club of Columbus, and Germania.  An avid archaeologist, he was a member of the Ohio Archaeological Council and volunteered for over 12 years in Central Ohio including Licking and Muskingum Counties.

Surviving are his companion, Joyce Fleitz of Newark; son and fiancAC., Tony Albright and Johnnie Jean Bennett of San Diego, Calif.; daughter Susan Lee of Upper Arlington; and granddaughter and her husband, Angela Lee and Pat McNally of Warren, Rhode Island.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Gloria Gari Albright who died in 1996.
