Donald L. Darfus

A memorial service for Donald L. Darfus, 77, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Karen Chakoian officiating. A private graveside service was held in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville.

Don died September 9, 2008 after a courageous, 16 year battle with cancer. He was born August 4, 1931 in Lancaster to the late Lee and Edna (Stump) Darfus.

A resident of Granville for over 30 years, Don was the Director of Project Development for Seico Engineering Inc. for 30 years. He served on the Board of Ohio Rural Water Association and received the John B. Wolf Achievement Award in 2008. Serving several terms on the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church in Newark, Don also spearheaded the renovation of the church sanctuary in 1990-91. He was a member of the Parent's Board for Hanover College (Indiana), Granville Center Star #11 Masonic Lodge, Kentucky Colonels,

and Boy Scouts of Central Ohio where he served as Commander for several years.

An avid reader, Don loved history and nature. He was a skilled craftsman and gardener and spent hours rehabbing historic homes and planting gardens. Always equipped with a good story, Don was a constant and expert source of family and local history. He enjoyed traveling and dedicated most of his free time to just taking care of all of those he loved.

Surviving are his wife Sandra (Weemhoff) Darfus; his children including, Jeff Darfus of Lancaster, Debby (Buz) Westhoven of Lancaster, Jerry (Jayne) Darfus of Laurelville, Lisa (Lee) Buckner of Washington Court House, and Erika (Jeff) Hinebaugh of Cincinnati; grandchildren including, Heather Hamric, Kip Westhoven, Joel, Derek, and Brittney Darfus, Jason Darfus, Sarah, Emilia and Clare Darfus, Nicholas and Olivia Buckner, Hans and Analise Hinebaugh; brothers, Jim (Pat) Darfus, Tom (Elaine) Darfus, and Dave (Linda) Darfus all of Lancaster; mother-in-law, Irene Weemoff; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Bill) Creager, Kathy (Ron) Reiber, and Kristine Vires; brother-in-law, Richard (Aimee) Weemhoff and many dear great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
