Donna grew up in Wheaton, IL where she was an excellent student, being particularly accomplished in piano and choral work. She had perfect pitch. She managed her father’s extensive fruit and vegetable gardens, worked at the local pool, and was active in Girl Scouts.
Donna graduated from Denison University in 1957, where she met her husband of 47 years, John. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority, serving as President. Later, she worked at Denison in the Career Development Office where she transitioned the then-required January Term to the highly praised May Term (now Denison Internship Program). She received an Alumni Citation in June 2007, Denison’s highest award for contributions to the Denison community and beyond. She also served on the Class of 1957 Golden Anniversary 50th Reunion Committee. She was proud to be a Denisonian.
Donna’s commitment to service was always evident. With three young daughters in Indianapolis, she helped establish a preschool coop that evolved into a full-time pre-kindergarten educational system. Upon moving to Granville in 1970, Donna began her numerous lifelong contributions to Granville and the surrounding community. Donna advocated for her girls to have activities available – music, athletics, theater – starting new programs or supporting existing ones.
She provided key leadership for Twig 6 of the Licking Memorial Hospital which operated the Granville Thrift Shop. She was a member of the Granville Music Club, League of Women Voters, P.E.O., Monday Talks, Town & Country, served as an Election Judge, and was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church and sang in the choir.
Donna served on a Citizens’ Advisory Committee for the Granville Board of Education. Later, she was elected to a total of 16 years (1979-1995) on the School Board. She was also appointed to the Licking County Joint Vocational School (now C-TEC) Board of Directors in 1982 and served 10 years. She held top elected offices on both Boards.
In 1995, Granville Rotary Club awarded her the Allen Avery Service Above Self Award. She later received an honorary Paul Harris Fellow from the Club.
Donna enjoyed music, piano, dancing, traveling, knitting Christmas stockings for the family; philanthropy, reading, and networking.
Donna is survived by her children, Deb Tegtmeyer and Kevin Clouse, Judy Tegtmeyer, Patty Tegtmeyer Riley and Dave Riley; grandchildren Dillon (Kate) Clouse, Peter (Cami) Clouse, Allison and Macklin Riley, and two great-grandchildren, Cassidy and Madilyn Clouse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Granville Education Foundation, Granville Community Foundation, and WOSU Classical 101 are encouraged.
