Dr. Neil Edward Greene

Dr. Neil Edward Greene, age 86 of Granville passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Licking Memorial Hospital. Neil was born July 17, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Paul and Carolyn (Tousey) Greene. Neil grew up a middle child alongside his older sister, Natalie (Greene) Gaffney and younger sister, Nancy Greene. He attended Maumee Valley Country Day School where he met his future wife, Joan Kelly, whom he wed on March 30, 1959.

Neil earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees in engineering at Dartmouth College. He also attended the University of Michigan where he earned his PhD in mechanical engineering, researching rocket fuel properties for NASA. In 1966, Neil and family moved to Granville, Ohio where he began his 30-year career with Owens-Corning Fiberglas at the Technical Center. One of his noted projects was contributing to the design of the Alaska Pipeline.

Neil enjoyed restoring and driving old corvettes, gardening, model airplane building, fishing, and traveling. He was a constant fixture on the sidelines of his children’s many sporting events and award ceremonies. Neil was known for his witty humor and ability to figure out all of Mr. Koenig’s algebra problems at any time during the day or night.

He was a wonderful supportive husband, father, and grandfather and his family already misses him dearly. Neil and Joan just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary earlier this year. He is survived by Joan and children, Chip (Vanessa Webb) Greene of Boston, Massachusetts, Tim (Lisa) Greene of West Hartford Connecticut, Carolyn Greene of Boulder, Colorado, and Elizabeth Greene of Arcata, California; grandchildren, Neil Greene, Claire Greene, Alison Greene, Shepard Greene, Jacqueline Greene, Peter Goetz, Charlie Goetz, Taylor Appy, Harper Appy, Madeline Greene, Finn Greene, and Hazel Wenzel-Greene. In addition to his parents, Neil was preceded in death by his siblings.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, May 13, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville, Ohio, 43023 with Rev. Karen Chakoian officiating.
