A Mass of Christian Burial for Edison Smith, 81, of Granville, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 17, 2014 at The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Rd., Granville with the Rev. G. Michael Gribble and Msgr. Paul P. Enke concelebrating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville with military honors provided by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance.
Ed died Monday, January 13, 2014 at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Columbus to the late Walter Earl and Ada (Sells) Smith and was the cherished grandson of "Pogy".
During the Korean War, Ed served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Donner-L.S.D.20. He was the Chief Engineer for the Lincoln-Leveque Tower in Columbus prior to his 30+ year career with The Cincinnati Insurance Co., as a Senior Boiler and Engineering Representative.
A member of The Church of St. Edward the Confessor, Ed was known for his helping hand to many and most especially his dedication to the Granville Kiwanis Club where he made certain everything electrical was in order for the 4th of July celebrations.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Michelina (Antolino) Smith; son and daughter-in-law, Michael E. and Elaine Smith of Willits, CA; and daughter, Anita M. Smith of Saginaw, MI.
In addition to his parents Edison was preceded in death by his son Brian J. Smith, who died February 25, 1996; two brothers and two sisters.
