Edith C. Nelson, 90, died Saturday, May 4, 2013 in Granville, Ohio. She was born August 28, 1922 in Rye, NY to the late Joseph and Teresa (Lesher) Cook.
Growing up in New York, Edie attended Vassar College and graduated with a major in Spanish and a minor in French. She worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as an administrative assistant to the Near Eastern Department. Edie enjoyed performing in musicals with the Village Light Opera Group in Greenwich Village, where she first met her husband of 62 years, Francis W. Nelson.

A passionate and avid reader, particularly historical novels, she volunteered several years at the Book Aid International in the effort to encourage literacy in less fortunate countries.
A very cultured, yet kind, gentle person, Edie loved gardening, taking nature walks, swimming, enjoying the ocean view, playing tennis, and traveling abroad. Many of her favorite summers were spent in the east end of Long Island.
