Eduardo Jaramillo Zuloaga

A Celebration of Life for J. Eduardo Jaramillo Zuloaga, 51, of Granville, will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2008 at Swasey Chapel on the campus of Denison University.

Eduardo died Tuesday, December 23, 2008 as a result of an accident.  He was born in Cali, Colombia, to Francisco Eduardo Cortazar Jaramillo and Rita Zuloaga de Jaramillo.

Edo, a poet, scholar, and educator, will lovingly be remembered as a humble, passionate man who inspired joy and happiness to those around him.  His intensity for life included his love of family, intellectual passion, and boundless spirit of adventure.  He had the innate ability to see beauty, joy, and goodness in everyone and everything he encountered.

A professor at Denison University since 1990, Eduardo served as Chair of the Modern Language Department.  He earned his B.A. from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota and received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Washington University.  He was a member of the Association of Colombianists where he served as president from 2001- 2005, Modern Languages Association, International Association of Hispanic Literature, and Latin American Studies Association.

In addition to his parents, surviving are his wife, Jill Gillespie; daughter, Gabriela Ines Jaramillo Calle and her mother, Maria-Ines "Mane" Calle; brothers, Alberto and German Jaramillo; sisters, Margie, Rita, and Vicky Jaramillo; his canine companion, "Dante"; and cousins and a multitude of nieces and nephews, who adored their Tio Nene.
