Edward W. Smith

Edward Smith, age 84 of Granville, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, in the Selma Markowitz Care Center operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born to the late Albert and Edith (Thompson) Smith on October 7, 1939, in Granville Township.

Ed worked for over 39 years at Denison University.  He worked in the Bowling Alley for 30 years and finished his career in Housekeeping.  He is a member of the Second Baptist Church of Newark and former member of the Welsh Hills Baptist Church in Newark.

Ed was a member of the Jersey Pullers Tractor Club for over 30  years and member of the Land of Legend Antique Tractor Club.  He was very active with 4-H for 19 years.

Survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Rachel M. (Whitehouse) Smith whom he married on August 6, 1971; siblings, Shirley Sullivan, Gerry Whitehouse and Don (Thelma) Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ed is also preceded in death by a sister, Revella Brumage; brothers-in-law, John L. Sullivan, Forest Whitehouse and Fred Brumage.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 am – Noon on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 1000 Granville Road, Newark, Ohio where a funeral service will begin at NOON with the Pastor Bob Davidson officiating.  Burial immediately following Maple Grove Cemetery.
