Eloise Gwyneth Miller was born June 4, 1950, in Lexington, KY and died July 18, 2024, in Granville, OH. Eloise spent all but the first year of her life in Central Ohio. She graduated from Columbus North High School in 1968, earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Kent State University where she graduated Cum Laude in 1972, and continued to take courses in Geology at The Ohio State University’s Newark Branch later in life.
In Columbus, Eloise worked as the office manager for a Psychology practice and as the Executive Secretary in the downtown Columbus Paine Webber brokerage office while raising her sons Jordan and David Kathary, before moving to Granville, Ohio in 1994. In Granville, she co-founded/co-owned/operated The Reader’s Garden bookstore with her friend and business partner, JoAnne Geiger, a business that thrives in Granville still. Eloise was proud of her Welsh and English heritage and enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends across the world but was happiest at home in Granville.
Eloise met her current husband, Larry Miller, when they were both elected to the Session of Overbrook Presbyterian Church in Columbus. They were married in 1992 and moved to Granville where they joined First Presbyterian Church of Granville. Eloise was an accomplished singer with a beautiful first soprano voice and sang in their Chancel Choir with Larry until stricken with cancer recently. She served as Clerk of Session on the Session of First Presbyterian of Granville and was an active member of her church community.
Eloise was predeceased by her parents Pardon T. Brown and Olwen G. Brown. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence C. Miller; her brother and sister-in-law, Alan T. Brown and Vicki Brown; cousin, Lee Timmerman; sons and daughters-in-law, Jordan D. T. Kathary and Amanda Krane, David A. Kathary and Yoselyn Kathary; nephew Geoff Brown, and niece, Katie Parnell. Eloise’s cremains will be spread over “Balsam Park” at the family compound, “Timberlost”, outside Eagle River, Wisconsin. Per Eloise’s wishes, there will be no funeral or celebration of life services held in her memory. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Granville music program or The Audubon Society.
