Emma Lou Wygle, 86, of Newark, formerly of Granville, passed away June 9, 2022 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark. She was born in Granville, Ohio to the late Wayne and Bright Lantz.
A 1953 graduate of Granville High School, Emma Lou retired from Denison University where she was a secretary in the Alumni Office. She enjoyed baking pies, traveling to casinos, and was known to pull a few slots. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, good nature, love of family, as a great mom and leader, and for her sweet disposition. Her rowdy family often thought she must have been adopted.
Surviving are her children and their spouses, Michael and Vicky Wygle, Mark and Candy Wygle, Pamela Rhoades, and Susan Wygle; siblings, Jim and Maxine Lantz, Jane Davis, and Judith Holtzclaw; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and special friend and adopted family member, Pam Dunn and her dog Truffles.
In addition to her parents, Emma Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Roland L. “Butch” Wygle who died in 1998; granddaughter, Kimmy LeFever; brothers, Sydney and John Lantz; son-in-law, Jerry Rhoades; and brother-in-law, William Holtzclaw.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and thanks for the love and care that Emma Lou received from the staff at Licking Memorial Health’s ICU.
