Evelyn June Maltbie, 89, passed away September 25, 2013 after a short illness. June was born in Warren to Charles and Gertrude (Middlestead) Grimsley and lived in the Youngstown area for over 60 years. She graduated in 1942 from the Warren G. Harding High School. In 1946 she graduated from Youngstown College where she was Editor-in-Chief of the college newspaper, The Jambar, was a member of the Alpha Theta Delta sorority, and was honored as May Queen. She taught elementary education in Youngstown City and Canfield school districts. She enjoyed sharing her boundless compassion and energy serving her beloved family and community. She served on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Mahoning Valley, who honored her with the Kathryn Challiss Pollock award. She also served on the board of directors of Paisley House and enjoyed being a docent at the Butler Institute of American Art. She was a member of Pymatuning Yacht Club and Central Christian Church in Youngtown. She was an avid quilter and loved traveling and researching genealogy
She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Justin) Proctor of Medina and Susan Maltbie (Gordon Fink) of Granville; daughter-in-law Linda Johannes Maltbie of Leetonia; sister Marilyn Maras of Pittsburgh, PA; grandchildren Alex and Brandon Maltbie; Christian, Gwendolyn and Katherine Proctor; and Charles, Evan and William Fink.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Charles H. Maltbie; son, Charles Curtiss (Curt) Maltbie; grandchildren, Gabriel and Margaret Fink, and sisters, Marjorie Lowery and Cleone Rintala.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 2 pm in the Rossi Auditorium of Mill Creek Park's Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44509. A private interment will be held at a future date at Belmont Park Cemetery.
