A funeral service for Eugene "Gene" G. Phillips, 63, of Newark will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at McPeek Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville with Rev. Terry Heck officiating. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery in Newark with military honors provided by the Licking County Veteran's Alliance.
Gene died July 24, 2008 at his home. He was born in Fairmont, W.VA on November 25, 1944 to the late Russell and Edna (Pryor) Phillips.
A 1962 graduate of Northridge High School, Gene, furthered his education at The Ohio State University and received his Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Franklin University. He began his career with Radio Shack marketing business computers and most recently had managed stores in Gahanna and Newark.
Gene was in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was stationed in Washington D.C at the Whitehouse where he served in the Honor Guard.
An avid card player, Gene, also enjoyed music, board games, painting, and Ohio State football. He was a member of American Legion Post 85 in Newark where he served as Second Vice Commander.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Jill" (Shuley) Phillips of Newark; sons, Chris (Michele) Phillips of New York, and Corey (Erica) Phillips of New Jersey; daughter Carrie (Michael) Campbell of Michigan; seven step-children; 6 grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; sister Ketha Robbins of Reynoldsburg; and one niece Arica Robbins Worth of Westerville.
