George M. Wood

A funeral service for George M. "Mac" Wood, 79, of Buckeye Lake, will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at First Community Church, 4381 Walnut Road, Buckeye Lake with Pastor Dave Moody officiating. A family graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Poplar Fork Cemetery in Gratiot with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans' Alliance.

Mac died Friday, February 20, 2009 at Chapel Grove Inn in Heath. He was born February 8, 1930 in Chillicothe to the late Robert H. and Laura B. (Kottenbrook) Wood.

Owner and operator of George M. Wood Builders, Mac was a 1948 graduate of Hebron High School and served his country in the United States Marine Corp.

Mac's greatest loves in life were his family and Buckeye Lake.  As a young man, he traveled with carnivals and worked at the Buckeye Lake Amusement Park. He was an avid boater and a lifetime member of the Buckeye Lake Yacht Club. He served on the Licking County Metropolitan Housing Board and was also a member of the Buckeye Lake Civic Association, Chamber of Commerce, Youth Association, and was instrumental in organizing and building the Greater Buckeye Lake Historical Society Museum.

Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Tim Ryan of Granville; granddaughter and her husband, Andrea and Chris Davis of Chicago, IL; and sister-in-law, Rosemary Wood of Buckeye Lake.

In addition to his parents, Mac was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Virginia Joan, who died December 19, 2000; brother, Gene Wood; and sister, Jocelyn Tingley.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at First Community Church.
