A funeral service celebrating the life of Virginia D. "Ginny" Stilson, 85, of Granville will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 10, 2012 at Centenary United Methodist Church, 102 E. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Stephen J. Cramer officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville. Ginny died Sunday, August 5, 2012 at her home. She was born August 30, 1926 in Cleveland, OH to the late Paul and Grace (Lee) Denning.
Ginny attended Denison University from 1944-1946 and then graduated from The Ohio State University in 1948 where she studied business administration and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.
An active member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Ginny also volunteered at New Beginnings Shelter, Granville Garden Club, Columbus Garden Club, Inniswood Park, and as a docent at the Columbus Museum of Art. She was instrumental in the founding of vision screening for children with amblyopia through Delta Gamma Sorority and the Columbus Board of Health. She was an original founding member of All Saints Episcopal Church in New Albany, Ohio working with Father Rick McCracken-Bennett.
A wonderful mother and wife, Ginny enjoyed the piano, painting, cooking, gardening, tennis, and providing the perfect home. She had a flare for interior decorating and used those talents as the proprietor of the Heritage Shop in Johnstown.
Surviving are her husband Alden E. Stilson, Jr. D.V.M., Major General U.S.A.R. retired, whom she married Sept. 18, 1948, daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Stilson M.D. and Mike Sullivan M.D. of Granville and Barbara and Jim Huff of New Albany; grandchildren, Rachel, Hannah, and Sam Sullivan and Alexander, Ben, and Julia Huff; half sister, Mary Lynn Lucas of OR.; nephew, William E. Stilson of Columbus; and niece, Amy Pogliano of Turin, Italy.
In addition to her parents, Ginny was preceded in death by her daughter, Catherine Lee Stilson Grant, who died in 2005 and brother, David Denning.
