H. Walter Denny, Jr

A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Walter Denny, 81, of Granville, will be held Sunday, FEBRUARY 6, 2011 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the College Town House, 334 E. Broadway, Granville.

Walter, a graduate of the University of Kentucky (also Burgin High School) and a retired district manager from JC Penney Co., passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born January 25, 1930 in Burgin, KY to the late Henderson Walter and Mary B. (Hawkins) Denny.

Walter served our country during the Korean Conflict upon a U.S. Naval aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and the Wood Samaritans Club. Other than wood-working, Walter enjoyed retirement as an avid vegetable gardener supplying Meals on Wheels with his abundant surplus. He had served as treasurer for both the regional Audubon Society as well as Friends of the Granville Library. He was on the Granville Library Board through the planning for the expansion project. Walter was a great fan of basketball, particularly Univ. of Kentucky and O.S.U. He also enjoyed playing and watching tennis. His legacy will remain as being an amazing manager with his ability to bring out the best in others. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, and grandfather whose memories will be cherished by his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Louise (Haag) Denny of Granville; son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Lisa Denny of Pickerington; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jeff McInturf of Newark; grandchildren, Chelsea Green and Callie McInturf; brother, Ernest Denny of Maryland; and sister, Lucille Hawthorne of Burgin, KY. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Stanley "Pete" Denny.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wood Samaritans c/o C.U.M.C., 102 E. Broadway, Granville, Ohio 43023.
