Harald Früchtnicht, age 74, of Granville, formerly of Columbus, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 10, 2016. He was born in Kiel, Germany on March 3, 1942 to Peter Johann Früchtnicht and Alma Früchtnicht.
After completing a butcher’s apprenticeship, at age 19 he immigrated to New York where he became a German Master Butcher. He eventually settled in Glendale, NY and retired from Schaller and Weber. Harald subsequently moved to Columbus, OH to be near his family.
Harald loved soccer, reading, movies and preparing wonderful German food. He also loved spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Otto Früchtnicht and Egon Fruchtnicht, and sister Christel Wandel.
He is survived by sisters Renate (Klaus) Reitz of Barsbüttel, Germany and Inge Barowski of Gribbohm, Germany; children Cristina (Steve) Weatherby of Johns Creek, GA, Peter Fruechtnicht of Pickerington, OH, and Andrew (Jo Beth) Fruechtnicht of Granville, OH; grandchildren Paige Fruechtnicht, Krischan Fruechtnicht, Graeme Fruechtnicht, Elena Fruechtnicht, Elizabeth Fruechtnicht, Gabriel Weatherby and Calin Weatherby; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 16 from 6 to 8 PM at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home in Granville. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the funeral home, immediately followed by interment at Maple Grove Cemetery.
