Harold was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a graduate of University of Illinois, and a lifetime member of The American Legion.  He moved to Ohio in 1950 as a manufacturers Rep, selling equipment for feed mills and grain elevators in Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and West Virginia.  He started the H.C. Attebery and Associates Construction Company to install equipment, as well as Butler buildings.  He remodeled and built many new mills throughout this territory.

He was the founder of Granville Milling Company in 1953, and remained on the Board until his death.  After moving to Granville in 1956, he was active in the community.  He purchased the land on South Main Street and proceeded to build the Granville Shopping Center.  He is a past president of the Granville Rotary, was instrumental in getting the Licking County Joint Vocational School started, and was active in 4-H as an advisor.  Upon retiring from sales and construction, he became a snow bird, spending half each year at his homes in Florida and Granville, and renewing his interest in golf.

Harold love to travel, having gone to Alaska three times, first in 1948 on the Alcan Highway.  He and Agnes made many trips overseas.  His favorites were the river cruises in Europe and adventures in Central and South America.

Harold leaves behind his wife, Agnes Howard-Attebery; three children, Chuck (Robin) Attebery of Tarpon Springs, FL, Lori (Chris) Mays of Granville, OH, and Dr. Lisa Attebery of Rehoboth Beach, DE; six grandchildren, Alec Attebery (Kelsie) of Coshocton, OH, Caleb, Cameron, and Jordan Attebery of Trapon Spring, FL, Wyatt and Gillian McCracken of Columbus, OH; one great granddaughter; stepchildren, John (Lois) Abraham of Venice, FL, Karan (Thurman) Freeman of St. Louisville, OH, Dave Abraham of Port St. Lucie, FL, Fred (Kathy) Abraham of Granville, OH, Pat (Suzie) Howard of Hebron, OH, Debbie (Ken) Stewart of Granville, OH; and numerous step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Harold had a lot of short sayings he came up with quite often.  One of his favorites was, “No problems, just challenges and opportunities”.  He didn’t proclaim this to be his motto in life, although he did live his life along those lines, meeting all his challenges and taking advantage of all opportunities presented to him.
