Harold Charles Hodson Jr.

GRANVILLE

Harold Charles Hodson Jr. (Hal) passed away peacefully at his home in Granville Ohio, September 14, 2023, with his family by his side.  Hal was born August 24th 1928, in Columbus Ohio and was raised in LaRue, Ohio.

He graduated from high school in 1946 and Ohio Northern University in 1949, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and a life member of the Lehr Society. He attended The Ohio State University, and was a member of the President’s Club.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.  He spent 40 years in the insurance industry and founded Benefit Plans Inc. in 1965 which pioneered health insurance for small employers.  Hal was a farmer, businessman, boater, traveler, and avid sports fan.  He lived many lives and remained active well into his 90’s.

Hal cared deeply about his family and one of his fondest memories was hosting “Camp Hodson” at his farm Green Tree Farms in Lancaster, Ohio during the summers for his grandchildren.  He left a memorable impression on everyone he encountered.  There was never a dull moment with him, he was always on the go, and had an insatiable thirst for adventure.

Hal is survived by 4 children; daughters, Morgan and Marcia; sons, Peter and Philip, in addition to his children he is survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Home Instead and their extraordinary caregivers for the care they provided Hal for the past 4 months.  In addition, they would like to thank Ohio’s Hospice for their compassionate care while caring for Hal.

The family will receive friends at his home in Granville, Saturday October 14th from 11 until 1.
