A memorial service celebrating the life of Henry N. "Hank" Marsh, 82, of Granville will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with the Rev. Karen J. Chakoian officiating.
Hank died Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Kendal at Granville. He was born May 6, 1929 in Wilmington, Delaware to the late Henry N. and Mary (Hunter) Marsh.
Hank graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering and a master's degree in Chemical Engineering Practice. A 28-year employee of Owens Corning Technical Center, he worked in the areas of insulation, chemical operations, plastics and concrete. Hank was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the American Concrete Institute, developing methods of concrete reinforcement. He worked with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in the development of plastic vessels for chemical service and safety.
During the Korean War, Hank served in the Ordinance Division of the U.S. Army at Frankfort Arsenal in Philadelphia.
Hank was a longtime resident of Granville (55 years) and a member of First Presbyterian Church where he served on the Finance Committee. He was a faithful and enthusiastic member of the Granville Rotary Club, member of the Licking Land Trust, and Director of the Granville Township Sanitary District since 1971, known by so many as "The Mosquito Man" of Granville. Hank was a longtime member of the Spring Valley Tennis Club and a founding member of the Spring Valley Platform Tennis Club.
Hank enjoyed watching sports, and playing tennis, golf and bridge. He was a passionate and excellent woodworker. Hank was a practical and well-prepared man, at the ready with just the right tool or device to prevent or fix any predicament. He took special joy in the fact he had "lived in the country" all his life; it mattered to him. He was a very intelligent man who enjoyed reading, learning, and sharing his knowledge as well as his fondness for irony with others.
Surviving are his daughters, Kennan Marsh of Lake Forest, IL, Sarah (Mark) Schweitzer of Green Oaks, IL, Mary Marsh of Washington D.C., and Emily (Lajos) Szabo of Dublin, OH; stepchildren, Holly (Tom) Abbott of Midlothian, VA, Bradley (Patricia) Bostian of Charlotte, NC, Mary Bostian of Gahanna, OH, and Carey H. Bostian II (Miera Kim) of Iowa City, IA; sisters, Eleanor (Robert) Hillers of Fayetteville, NY and Jane (Richard Rosenbaum) Dieckmann of Ithaca, NY; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Carolyn Lindsay of Ponte Verde, FL.
In addition to his parents, Hank is preceded in death by his loving wife of 19 years, Barbara Bostian Marsh, wife Mary Jane Marsh, and stepson Russell Bostian.
