Herbert C. Randolph

A celebration of life will be held for Herbert C. "Herb" Randolph, 96, of Granville at 11:00 a.m. on April 26, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Broadway, Granville with Rev. Karen Chakoian and Rev. Thom Lamb as co-celebrants. Burial will be held at Fredonia Cemetery.

Herb died March 16, 2011 in Newark at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio. He was born December 9, 1914 in Long Beach, California to the late Scott F. and Della Rowand Randolph.

In 1934, Herb arrived in Granville to attend Denison University where he graduated with a degree in economics with the class of 1939. It was during this time that Herb's passion for golf developed at the Granville Golf Course. He would later serve his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Force and retire from the Newark Air Force Base where he was a production controller for guidance systems.

Herb was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Granville for 65 years where he served as elder and former choir member. He was also a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, the State of Ohio American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution, the MayFlower Society, Baronial Order of Magna Charta, and was a life member of Founders and Patriots of America. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and was especially known for his bread and butter pickles. He never lost his sense of humor and could always make you smile.

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Jeane Owens Acord whom he married January 25, 1943; daughter Jane Randolph of Livermore, CA; daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter, Susan Randolph, Tom Sluchak, and Elisabeth of Apex, NC; sister-in-law, Sue (Ross) Randolph of Whiting, NJ; nephews and wives, G. Randolph and Dianna Hand of Paducah, KY and John H. and Roberta Hand of Auburn, AL.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
