A celebration of the life of Howard A. Hopkins, 79, of Granville, will be held at a later date. Howard passed away Friday, April 22, 2022 at Westerwood Senior Living in Columbus. He was born in New Jersey to the late Alfred L. and Edna Sharpf Hopkins and grew up in Bluefield, West Virginia.
A retired physicist, Howard’s life-time career with the Department of Defense was at the Newark Air Force Base. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the College of William and Mary where he met his soon to be wife, Rebecca Coyner. Together they raised two daughters, Sarah and Kathy.
An enthusiastic hobbyist and lifelong learner, Howard had a variety of interests depending upon what intrigued him. He volunteered with Licking Memorial Health, TWIG, and enjoyed gardening, canoeing, traveling, real estate, and his equestrian companion, Regal. He was a passionate foodie, vintner, and developed his own culinary skills. He will be remembered for his compassionate and humble nature and his sweet disposition.
Surviving are his daughters, Katherine (Greg) Schubert and Sarah (Kerry) Ryan; grandchildren, Cassidy, Riley, Emily, Ryan, Megan (Josh), and Nathan; great granddaughter, Joanna; and long term partner, Lila Leck.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Rebecca; brothers, Donald and Walter; and sister, Alice.
Howard will be laid to rest with his wife Rebecca at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Crimora, Virginia.
