Ian Douglas Stewart

December 15, 1968 — February 24, 2010

Ian Douglas Stewart, age 41 and a resident of Hilliard, passed away peacefully in Silver Spring, Maryland early Wednesday morning. He was rightfully dubbed a "hero" during his struggle with cancer.  His gentle and courteous nature, even when in pain, brought a smile to many faces.

A long time employee of JP Morgan Chase, Ian proudly served his country in the Gulf War in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Nimitz, after which he embarked on a career path which illustrated his considerable talents in computer programming and international software development.  Ian found joy outside of work in his children, family, and many different computer games.

Originally born in Pennsylvania on December 15, 1968, Ian spent considerable parts of his life in Maryland, Washington, and Oregon.  He settled near Columbus, Ohio with his family in 2000 and has been a local resident for the past ten years. Ian was a "Buckeye" at heart and it was his wish to be laid to rest in Ohio. Ian will be lovingly remembered by all those whose lives he touched.

Surviving are his wife, Susan, and two children, Arielle and Elijah; maternal grandparents, Dr. Tracy G. and The Rev. Marjorie M. Gipson; father and stepmother Roger and Paula Stewart; mother and stepfather Tracy Ann Gipson and Mr. Bernard Bloom; three sisters, Michelle, Vanessa, and Miriam; two brothers, Stanton and Aaron and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Ian was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Morse and Dorothy Stewart.

Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2nd at Rutherford Funeral Home, 515 N. High St., Worthington, Ohio 43085

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Granville, 115 W. Broadway, Granville, Ohio 43023. Interment will follow at Welsh Hills Cemetery in Granville.
