A private graveside service will be held for John A. "Jack" Hart, 83, of Granville at Newark Memorial Gardens with Pastor Dean Cole as celebrant. The family will receive friends Monday, March 9, 2015 from 4 to 6 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect, in Granville.
Jack was born in 1931 in London, Ohio to the late Raymond and Helen (Armstrong) Hart. He passed away February 28, 2015 at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.
During the Korean War, Jack served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic. His training in the military and his natural inquisitiveness on how things worked, led to a lifetime of employment as a mechanic concluding with a 30 year career at Sears Automotive where he retired in 1996.
Although aviation and mechanics were central in Jack's life, he will be remembered for his quiet nature and kindness toward others. He and his wife, Alice, his companion and co-worker, took care of others prior to their retirements and continued to do so, whether it be a trip to the airport, home and lawn care, mechanics, or a break in the day to say "hello" to someone's pet. Jack cared about people and pets.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Alice (Patten) Hart; sister, Nancy Crawmer of Newark; brother and sister-in-law, Dick and Karen Patten of Florida; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Watson.
Memorial contributions may be made to The James Cancer Center, P.O. Box 183112, Columbus, OH 43218-3112.
