Jack L. Ries

January 9, 1927 — December 11, 2013

A memorial service celebrating the life of Jack L. Ries, 86, of Newark, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 15, 2013 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 285 W. National Drive, Newark with Rev. Mark Katrick as celebrant. Private burial will be held at Wilson Cemetery in Newark.

A WWII Army veteran, Jack passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at O.S.U. Medical Center in Columbus. He was born January 9, 1927 in Port Washington, Ohio to the late Bert and Lois (Hand) Ries.

Jack retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas and the Roper Company where he was a tool and die engineer. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Aladdin Shriners, and Newark Masonic Lodge #97 where he was a 32 degree mason.

A great family man and grandfather, Jack will fondly be remembered for his love of family and his warm and friendly personality. He was the man who held the door for all others, the last to go through a line of service, and the first with a smile, kind word, and helping hand for all he encountered. The definition of gracious best describes the life of Jack Ries.

Surviving are his wife, Gloria "June" (Jones) Ries; son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Tina Ries II; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Tom Meecha, Georgia Grove, Judy and Roy Sylvester, and Jill and Jim Carlyle; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and sister, Betty Watson.

Arrangements are in the care of McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home in Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's U.C.C., 285 W. National Drive, Newark, OH 43055.
