James W. Bone

November 26, 1916 — April 2, 2011

James William Bone, formerly of Granville, Ohio, and Sanibel, Florida, passed quietly from this life on April, 2, 2011, in Sarasota, FL.

Jim was born in Columbus, Ohio, on November 26, 1916, to Jane Huntington Bone and Hugh McCauley Bone. He attended Bexley schools, where he lettered in 5 sports as a senior, and graduated from the Ohio State University in 1939, where he was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

On July 12, 1941, Jim married Anne Minneman and soon after he served 3 years in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He and Anne settled in Granville, Ohio, with their daughter Diane in 1946. Jim established the "James Campus Shop", which later became the James Store, in downtown Granville. He was pleased to live in Granville, to talk with so many customers and friends at the Store, and to be a Founding Member of the Granville Rotary Club in 1959 and what was known as the Merchants' Association, begun in the early sixties. He served as Sr. Warden and Vestry member, and as a fine bass voice in the choir while a faithful member of St. Luke's Church.

Jim was predeceased by his wife, Anne; and his brother, Hugh H. Bone, of Columbus.

He is survived by Diane Foubert and her husband, David; grandchildren, James Ridgeway, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Peter Ridgeway of Akron, Ohio, and Emily Anne Foubert, of Madison, Wisconsin; as well as two great grandchildren, Sophia and Nicholas Ridgeway; he is also survived by Jane Murphy Bone, whom he married in 1990 on Sanibel Island, her three daughters and their families, who had grown to love him over 20 years. He will be remembered by them and by many others as a kind and graceful man, a fisherman, golfer, gardener, a great dancer, a dapper shopkeeper, full of good humor and loving-kindness toward others. Jim Bone was the quintessential gentle-man.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke's Church, Granville, at noon on Saturday, April 9, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to St. Luke's Church.
