James E. Brookbank

d. January 24, 2016

James E.  Brookbank, 71, of Columbus, formerly of Granville, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in 1944 to the late Woodrow W. and Mary L. (Baker) Brookbank and graduated from Granville High School before serving in the U.S. Air Force. He would later retire from Medco as a Client Services Supervisor.

Not knowing a stranger and having a big heart were a couple of Jim’s best qualities. He was a very social person who enjoyed cooking and had a passion for gardening. He was known as Poppy or Grandpa to his grandchildren and his love and adoration were limitless for those three very special people. He will be remembered as a loving partner, father, grandfather, and friend.

Surviving are his partner for life of 28 years, Christopher Triggs; children, Jason Brookbank and his wife, Shawn, and Nicole Brookbank-Mizer and her partner, Julie; grandchildren, Evan and Ryan Brookbank and Zoey Brookbank-Mizer; brother, Jerry G. Brookbank; sisters, Holly Howard and her husband, Keith, and Barbara Gordon; and sister-in-law, Sandie Brookbank.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one brother, John D. Brookbank; and step-mother, M. Phyllis (Sipe) Brookbank.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 30th from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. at the McPeek-Hoekstra Funeral Home, 133 S. Prospect Street, Granville. A reception will follow celebrating Jim’s life at the Granville Inn, 314 E. Broadway, Granville. Online condolences may be expressed at www.mcpeekhoekstra.com.
