A memorial service for James W. Davies, 78, of Granville, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at Alexandria United Methodist Church, 72 Church Street, Alexandria with Rev. Mary Sandberg officiating.
Mr. Davies died August 31, 2007 at Heath Nursing Care Center. He was born May 10, 1929, in Granville to the late Gaile and Doris (Galbraith) Davies.
A 1947 graduate of Granville High School, Jim was Vice-President of Wyeth-Scott Company in Newark. He owned and operated the Davies Tree Farm with his wife, Barb, in Granville. He was a former Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 66 in Fredonia and was also active with 4H Band, especially working on the buildings and hitching post.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Barbara (Metcalf) Davies of Granville; son and daughter-in-law Bill and Lisa Davies of Newark; grandchildren Ashley, David, and Bruce Davies; beloved companion "White Knight"; brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Dixie Davies of Newark; sister and brother-in-law, Joann and Dick Payne of Mount Vernon; sisters-in-law and their husbands Betty and Lige Davison of Alexandria, Linda and Clint Wright of Newark, and Judy and Art Dossman of Stoutsville, Don and Connie Reid of Newark; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Shirley Reid.
The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.
